We Found Love (Mix Mechanics ’88 Zamunda Remix)

Rihanna-We-Found-Love-Mix-Mechanics-'88-Zamunda-Remix-Cover

My good friends, the Mix Mechanics sent this over yesterday. I heard an earlier version and was asked to help get it finalized. Everyone knows the mega-hit and all the bootlegs from Calvin Harris & Rihanna’s “We Found Love.” This remix goes a different direction and is themed from the 1988 classic comedy Coming To America. The bongos & drums lend to the Zamunda style and the movie quotes add some hilarious moments. It’s a refreshing take on the track. The Mix Mechanics def had fun with it. Enjoy!

DJ Jazzy Jeff 2.25.12 Re-Schedule

Building 24, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Gregg Nyce reschedule

What Happened:

DJ Jazzy Jeff was scheduled to perform at Building 24 last Saturday 2.18.12. Unfortunately, technology reared it’s ugly head and rendered Jeff’s Mac unusable. He and his team were working on a fix for almost 3 hours before they had to call the show. I was expected to open for him from 10-12 and in doing so I held off on a lot of big hits and some classics. As the night wore on I started to add in some hits here and there to keep the crowd moving in a festive mood. By 1am Skillz and Jeff came out on stage and personally addressed the situation with much regret. He promised another show this coming Saturday 2.25.12 to make up for the cancellation. At that point I opened up and dropped just about every big tune hoping people would stick around and feel good about the night in the end. The crowd of nearly 1,200 were into it, the feedback was great, and I was honored to hold it down for Jeff. Everyone who attended was given a wristband on the way out which gets them free entrance for this week’s show. ID scanners will also determine who was in attendance if you didn’t get a wristband. I hear everyone gets a drink pass too!

My Thoughts:

I felt terrible for Jeff and his team. He’s a true professional and a stand up guy. He prides himself on delivering the best performance every time and nothing less. Deciding to call the show and come back the next week with everything proper was huge. All things considered, I think Building 24, Jeff and the team did outstanding damage control. I tried my best to separate myself from the situation, not show concern, and rock the house. I heard 24′s owner even reimbursed travel expenses to a few people that came from afar and were unhappy. Ironically they are coming back this weekend!

It’s not a matter of “if” technology fails, it’s “when” technology fails. I had a similar situation a few months back. Luckily I was close enough to home that I could grab a backup Mac to perform. Most of my tunes were on there but it wasn’t the same. Clearly an unfortunate situation that can affect anyone.  So if you missed last week’s show for some reason, here’s your second chance to catch The Magnificent DJ Jazzy Jeff. Make no mistake, this will be crazy!

Schedule Change:

The Disco Fries were scheduled to perform Saturday 2.25.12. They have been extremely cool and understanding and are re-scheduled for Friday 3.2.12.

DJ Nerd Stuff:

Oh yeah and Jeff kindly signed this classic that’s been in my collection forever.
